The Border Security Force (BSF) of India are deployed to guard the borders of the country. The BSF was established during December 1965. They come under the country’s paramilitary forces and are trained for preventing transnational crimes. This force is part of the law enforcement agencies of the country, coming under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government of India.
Previously, the borders of India were guarded by the State Armed Police Battalion. However, these forces were then replaced by the BSF during the year 1965. This was because the Government of India found the need for specialized centrally-managed armed forces due to frequent attacks by Pakistan. Subsequently, the newly-appointed forces received sophisticated training, arms and started manning the India-Pakistan borders.
Periodically, the BSF authorities release notifications of the latest job vacancies. The purpose is to invite applications from eligible candidates to join the forces. The applicants can submit their applications for varied positions. These include for Constable (General Duty), Assistant Commandant, and Head Constable (Radio Operator/Radio Mechanic) –to list a few.
More so, a significant percentage of the youth population of India seek jobs with the defence forces of the country. As such, they get an opportunity to serve their country. Besides, they are assured of job security, medical care, accommodations, among other benefits.
An important point to note is that the aspiring candidates are advised to apply only if they satisfy the eligibility requirements to avoid disqualification.
Furthermore, the selection process differs for the recruitment for the different ranks of the BSF. For example, the recruitment of Constables (General Duty) ensues via direct recruitments. Then, for sub-inspector positions, the candidates are chosen via promotions or direct recruitments.
Jobs with the BSF: Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the varied positions with the BSF vary. To apply for Constable positions, the candidates have to clear the Matriculation or high school exams. Even if they have completed 2-year ITI courses, they can apply. Further, they should be between the ages of 18-23 years to be eligible to apply.
Also, for the Assistant Commandant posts, the candidate has to be a graduate from a recognized board or university. Further, the upper age limit is fixed at 35 years for these BSF positions.
Jobs with the BSF: Selection Process
For selecting candidates, the examiners convene a series of tests; these vary for the different posts. Now, to fill Constable positions, the candidates are called for physical standard tests, trade tests, written exams, medical tests, and personal interviews, among others. However, first, the written tests are conducted. Then, the candidates who clear the exam are invited for physical fitness tests and medical exams.
The written test contains 100 questions and totals to 100 marks, with 1 mark awarded for each correct answer. The duration of the test is 200 marks. The question paper tests the candidates’ quantitative aptitude, analytical skills, basics of Mathematics, and English Grammar proficiency.
Jobs with the BSF: How to apply?
The candidates who aspire to be part of the BSF should read the instructions for applying on the official website, http://bsf.nic.in/welcome.html. Also, they have to study the eligibility norms of the positions that they are applying to. Moreover, they have to take a print copy of the Application Form by downloading from the ‘Careers’ section of the website. Follow by duly filling the Application Form with the requisite details.
The eligible candidates have to approach the PST/PET designated centers that pertain to their district to apply for jobs with the BSF. Here, they have to submit the filled Application Form and attested copies of the mandatory educational qualification documents. Besides, they are tested at the centers too. Then, upon qualifying the varied rounds, they are called for the subsequent rounds.
Paying the Application fee is, also, compulsory. The candidates can make payment via the acceptable payment modes. These include Internet Banking, Card payment (debit card / credit card).
